I Thought I Was Writing Bruce's Story. Then Things Got Dark.
When I started writing Wolfe's Secret, I thought I was simply giving Bruce Wolfe his own story. And then... things became dark, very dar!

As I mentioned on a previous post, Bruce had been a character of an old novel I wrote (dated back 2012) that will never be finished because I simply lost all the files (to an Era where we didn't use to have clouds to store files into).
Bruce… He had always been one of those characters who seemed to have a life happening somewhere just outside the frame, and after everything he went through in “You, Again”, I wanted to know what happened before Samantha, who he was when nobody was watching, and what kind of man he became when he wasn’t in love with her.
I knew Bruce had a darker side.
He knew it too, although I don’t think either of us quite understood what that meant yet.At first, I thought his dark side would come out through Melanie (who is another character of my old novels dated back in 2011), we'll talk about her in another post.
Anyways… Bruce believed he was walking into something dangerous because of the sexual tension between them, the power games, the attraction, the things he probably shouldn’t be doing but couldn’t seem to stay away from.
And then Melanie entered the story.
Which, honestly, is when things started getting interesting.(Yes, there's a dark tone to this new World)
Because Melanie wasn’t exactly innocent herself, the relationship started pulling Bruce into a world of BDSM, control, manipulation, obsession and power, and somewhere along the way I realized I wasn’t writing the sexy little spin-off I had originally imagined.
((((Instead, it had become a Dark Romance))))
I Want to take a pause here to mention that I was wondering some days ago: How the hell is this experience of writing a dark romance? - And then, BOOM! It happened to my writing - lol
I was writing something much darker. Much more psychological. And, let’s be honest, much more disturbing. At some point I actually stopped and thought:
Wait. I’m not writing just a spin-off anymore. I’m building a whole world.
And that’s how Disturbia was born.

What started as Bruce’s story suddenly became the first door into a darker corner of the MayaVerse, a place where desire isn’t always romantic, power isn’t always obvious, and the most dangerous thing in the room isn’t necessarily the person you think it is.
Wolfe’s Secret is still Bruce’s story.
But now it’s also something else.
It’s the story that opened the door to Disturbia.
And I’m very curious to see what happens once that door is fully open.
Xo,
Maya
